OUTDOOR RECREATION ECONOMY IN THE USA RESOURCES
It was amazing to learn that the outdoor recreation industry in the USA was nearly double the size of the automotive, pharmaceutical, and fuel industry and creates nearly twice the number of jobs. $646 billion in spending, 6.1 million jobs, and over $39.7 billion in state and federal tax revenue is created by the outdoor recreation industry.
This creates an incredible opportunity for purpose driven entrepreneurs to build businesses in either retail, travel, manufacturing, guided trips, outdoor adventures, nature tourism, ecotourism, education, an more. The success of companies such as REI and Patagonia are just some examples of companies that stayed true to their ethics and have built huge enterprises based on their core values.
This furthers the case that there is more value in conservation of natural resources than most people realize.
